Dad sues KLCC Park maintenance firm over son’s death
KUALA LUMPUR: A technician, whose son was electrocuted at the KLCC Park here during a new year’s eve celebrations, has filed a RM5mil suit against the park’s maintenance company.
Abdul Basek Md Isa, 43, is seeking RM15,152 in special damages, RM3mil in general damages and RM2mil in other damages, with interest and costs.
He filed the writ of summons, through the law firm of Messrs Adzly and Co, against KLCC Urusharta Sdn Bhd at the High Court Registry here yesterday.
In his statement of claim, Abdul Basek said that just after midnight on Jan 1, his only son, Muhammad Failzul Abdul Basek, 18, leaned on a lamppost in the park during the new year’s eve celebration and was electrocuted.
He claimed that the defendant, as the company in charge of maintaining KLCC Park, was negligent in ensuring that their lampposts were safe and not pose a safety threat to park visitors.
“The defendant had been careless and irresponsible for not conducting thorough checks on whether the lampposts showed signs of damage which could cause anyone who touched it to be electrocuted,” he said.
He was accompanied by lawyer Adzly Ab Manas, wife Hamisah Sulaiman, 36, and daughter Siti Nur Fadillah, 17, yesterday.
